Promising DARPA-Related Technologies for Medical Applications
The impact of DARPA's breakthroughs is hard to fathom. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency helped develop everything from GPS technology to the stealth fighter, speech recognition technology, ARPANET (the precursor to the Internet), and microelectromechanical systems (MEMs). The U.S. government agency also helped pioneer a number of medical breakthroughs as well, with surgical robotics and handheld ultrasound being among them.
In a presentation at FutureMed in Silicon Valley, Jay Schnitzer, MD, PhD, former director of defense sciences office at DARPA revealed a number of impressive technologies that could be used in medical device applications.
