Sorin Group, a cardiovascular device manufacturer based in Italy, announced that its new wireless RF remote monitoring tool was successfully implanted in a Canadian patient. The Paradym RF implant is designed to work with the company’s Smartview remote monitoring system.
According to a press release by the company, the Smartview system is designed to provide clinicians and healthcare providers with real-time information about a patient’s biometrics. The implant wirelessly transmits biometric information about a patient to an exterior receiver. With Smartview, healthcare providers can read instantly-generated reports about a patient online. This has the potential to reduce the number of required patient checkups.
The company’s Paradym RF product line comprises cardiac resynchronization devices and implantable cardioverter defibrillators. All products under the Paradym RF brand are fully compatible with the company’s Smartview remote monitoring system.
Stefano Di Lullo is the president of Sorin’s CRM business unit. In prepared remarks, he stated, “The Smartview remote monitoring system has the potential to improve care for hundreds of thousands of patients across the world." He continued, "By providing clinicians easy access to meaningful information from a patient's device, they can assess the patient's medical status quickly and efficiently. It represents an intelligent use of technology that leads to more informed care."
Earlier this December, Sorin also received approval from the Japanese Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency for its Mitroflow aortic pericardial heart valve.
