(March 2007) - Amcor Flexibles announces the installation of a new 10 color rotogravure printing press, new adhesive laminator and a Clean Room finishing area in its Madison, Wisconsin facility. "These investments, totaling $13 million, demonstrate Amcor's ongoing commitment to meeting our healthcare and personal care customers' requirements for innovation, quality and clean manufacturing," comments Peter Brues, President of Amcor Flexibles' Healthcare sector.
The versatile, 10 station Rotomec gravure printing press incorporates in-line converting operations, including in-register solvent-based coating with adhesive laminating, and cold seal coating, for printing a wide range of flexible materials. With high speed and automation that allows for quick changeovers, Amcor is able to be very responsive to customer needs for fast turnaround. The new press and adhesive laminating capabilities complement the Madison facility's existing state-of-the art, high speed, wide web tandem coextrusion coating and laminating line, which includes the flexibility to run as two independent lines as well as in tandem.
Concurrent with the installation of the new press and adhesive laminator, the Madison plant invested in a new incinerator to provide the dual benefit of reducing emissions and reducing energy consumption by recycling the energy for use in the plant. "The new incinerator and our solvent recovery system for inks reflect Amcor's aim to achieve best practice environmental management across all its operations worldwide," adds Todd Hurd, General Manager in Madison.
To enhance our high standards of cleanliness, a Class 100,000 Clean Room finishing area (ISO 14644 Class 8) was installed in Madison, in addition to a range of environmental control systems. The series of improvements includes limiting access to manufacturing areas, segregating and isolating equipment into positive air pressure environments, and installing defect detection and pest control systems.
Leveraging Amcor's global expertise in rotogravure printing, Amcor Flexibles Madison is the latest addition to the numerous Rotomec gravure presses in operation at various Amcor production facilities world-wide.
