Venlo, the Netherlands (March, 2013) – Merit Medical Coatings, a medical device component manufacturer and coating company, announced that is has released a new overview video. The video tours the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Venlo, the Netherlands and Galway, Ireland, and demonstrates its advanced manufacturing and coating capabilities for medical device components.
The “Introduction to Merit Medical Coatings” video highlights Merit Medical Coatings’ unique and proven method of coating medical device tubes and wires that results in ultra-smooth finishes and consistent outer diameters. The process entails moving tubes and wires of various materials off their spools and through a “coating bath” of PFOA-free PTFE or hydrophilic coating. The coating is applied in various layers depending on the preferences of the medical device manufacturing customer. Tubes and wires are then cured and wound back around spools for the customer. All coatings are applied prior to further processing of the medical device component, which could include coiling for guide wires, laser cutting for hypotube/catheter shafts or other processing steps. The spool-to-spool coating process was perfected by Merit Medical Coatings more than a decade ago, and prevents the cracking that can occur with other medical device coating methods such as spray-coating or dip-coating after processing.
The video also highlights Merit Medical Coatings’ manufacturing capabilities for medical device components such as hypotubes / catheter shafts, guide wires, needles and mandrels. The company has the in-house capabilities to coil; straighten; cut skive, stylet, spiral and combination finishes; add markers to hypotube/catheter shafts, among many other advanced and customizable manufacturing capabilities. Therefore, Merit Medical Coatings can also serve as a medical device component manufacturer and supplier for the medical device industry.
Finally, the video clearly demonstrates that when customers work with Merit Medical Coatings, they have access to the resources, capabilities and the more than 25 years of medical device design and manufacturing experience provided by parent company Merit Medical Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: MMSI).
