August 30, 2011 — Extensive tubing extrusion capabilities enable Forefront to provide many types of specialty components, as well as finished medical disposable devices. These components are extruded from silicone, polyurethane, medical grade PVC and other specialty formulated materials to customize physical properties, such as durometer, color and elongation, as well as meet the customer's pricing requirements.

Specialty applications include extrusions wound with stainless steel or Nitinol wire (shown left). These are formed into wire reinforced tubing for unique, non-kinking configurations, such as cannula. Standard construction ranges are 5 mm to 20 mm outside diameters and up to 75 cm lengths. Custom constructions are available for unique application requirements.

Forefront's extensive application expertise assures selection of the appropriate medical grade material best suited to the customer's performance and cost requirements. Unique application solutions are achieved through Forefront's extensive expertise in materials, processes, tooling and production equipment.

The drug infusion device (pictured on right) provides a leak proof assembly using extruded silicone tubing to achieve the exact durometer for high performance pump transfer of fluids. In addition, extruded medical grade (DEHP free) PVC tubing is utilized for the infusion line.

Other unique applications for extruded medical tubing are shown in the oiled PVC tubing (pictured left) that forms the warming section of the drug infusion line. Cost effective manufacturing techniques are used to form and temporarily retain the coil, while allowing for resizing the coil in actual field use. Other applications of extruded PVC tubing include IV administration and blood collection sets, flushing and drainage kits, as well as custom devices for specialty applications. Other types of finished devices include extruded polyurethane tubes for feeding tube catheters and medical grade PVC or silicone formulas for custom airways.

Other specialty tubing applications include Naso-Gastric (NG) and Jejunal (J-Tube) feeding tube catheters. These products feature high performance, medical grade polyurethane tubing, coated with Hydromer® coating, which allows for easy insertion of the device. The dual port design provides for both simultaneous feeding and decompression. These catheters are available from 9FR to 12 FR as standard sizes. Both guidewire and tether placement techniques are available. Custom constructions, pediatric requirements and sterile options are available for unique application requirements.
