Blow molding services create hollow parts for the medical device industry by the injection blow molding, extrusion blow molding, or stretch blow molding processes, which all begin with a plastic preform that is blown into a specific shape with compressed air. Blow molding is most commonly used for containers in the medical industry, such as single-use or tamper-proof medication doses, and often the containers are filled and sealed directly after the blow molding process. Injection blow molding first injection molds a preform onto a core pin, which is rotated to the blow molding station, inflated, and the final part is ejected. Extrusion blow molding extrudes melted plastic into a hollow tube, and in either a continuous or intermittent process portions the tube into the proper part size and pushes the tube melt out with air to form the part, which is cooled and ejected. Stretch blow molding starts with injection molded preforms which are heated, stretched with a core rod, and blown into molds using high pressure air. The blow molding process offers fast production speeds and little to no plastic scrap, depending on the type of blow molding used.
