Multilumen tubing is manufactured by the extrusion process with more than one channel running through the profile, making multilumen tubing suitable for medical device applications using multiple fluids, gases, or guidewires. The outer diameter (OD) of multilumen tubing can be a wide range of sizes, and numerous custom inner diameter (ID) channels with various wall thickness can be included in the profile. Most thermoplastic materials can be extruded into multilumen tubing, depending on the required wall thicknesses, in polymers with hardnesses from as flexible as 20 Shore A up to rigid 150 Shore D materials. Metals are generally not used in the actual multilumen tubing extrusion process, though metal components like wires can have multilumen tubing extruded or coextruded over the top.
