Home Portable - Home portable medical devices share the common need for long battery life, robust data processing and a wired or wireless communication interface. Freescale microcontrollers offer an ideal combination of high processing capabilities and low power consumption. As a pioneer in the communications market, Freescale offers solutions for wired and wireless interfaces, including USB, IEEE® 802.15.4 and ZigBee® technology. Furthermore, Freescale micro-electromechanical system (MEMS)–based pressure and inertial sensors as well as the tunneling magnetoresistive technology (TMR)-based magnetic sensor can be used to acquire physical parameters. User interfaces include touch screens, enabled by touch sensors, that have buttons and screens that can be sanitized quickly and easily.
Health and Wellness - The consumer population is more health conscious than ever before. Devices like portable heart rate and blood pressure monitors, integrated activity monitors for fitness and exercise, pulse oximeters and emerging systems are just the beginning of a revolution in healthcare devices. Freescale products are used in health-critical situations where physiological events need to be recognized quickly and addressed appropriately. Freescale offers a spectrum of processors spanning ColdFire™, Kinetis, i.MX and Power® Architecture 32-bit cores as well as 8-bit microcontroller solutions that are ideal for these applications in terms of performance and integration supported by up to 15 years assured supply.
Imaging - The complexities of medical imaging require extraordinary DSP processing, high performance analog and RF power. Modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital X-ray (2-D and 3-D) computed tomography (CT) or angiography scans push performance limits for advanced integrated I/O, rigorous data processing, powerful display capabilities and high levels of connectivity. These needs are addressed by Freescale's family built on Power Architecture® multicore processors, high performance DSPs such as the multicore MSC825x family for medical imaging applications and RF amplifiers. The Power Architecture family is designed for applications requiring a rich user interface, complex displays and network integration. Freescale's RF power amplifiers provide the high output power required to achieve the desired frequency of resonance, or Larmour frequency. These components are engineered to assist medical imaging equipment manufacturers in meeting their processing and performance needs, to control a rich user interface display and to allow connectivity through various standard protocols.
