Northwest EMC Inc. is the largest independent, accredited, commercial EMC compliance test laboratory. The company has locations in California, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, and Washington. Facilities include FCC listed 10M, 5M, and 3M chambers with a full complement of immunity and wireless testing capabilities. Northwest EMC is fully authorized and accredited from all the major governing agencies including Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB), Conformity Assessment Body (CAB), and Foreign Certification Body (FCB).

With state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, we increase testing accuracy while decreasing testing time to maximize testing dollars. Some key advantages of working with Northwest EMC:

  • Expertise in the debug and remediation of EMC issues.
  • FCC-listed chamber permits unprecedented testing accuracy.
  • Fully automated data acquisition increases throughput.
  • Quick-scans allow for full spectrum characterizations in less than 15 minutes.
  • Complete certification tests in 50% less time than a traditional outdoor site.
  • Radiated emissions to 220 GHz.

Among the many offerings Northwest EMC now provides SAR evaluations. Working closely with health and safety organizations, the FCC and other spectrum authorities around the world have adopted limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy. For devices used closer than 20 cm to the head or body, the limits are given in terms of the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), which is a measure of radio frequency energy absorbed by the head or body. As part of the equipment authorization process, manufacturers are required to ensure that their devices comply with these limits for exposure. The FCC and Industry Canada limit for public exposure is a SAR level of 1.6 watts per kilogram (1.6 W/kg). The European Union and many other countries have a SAR limit of 2.0 W/kg.

Our SAR Testing lab is located in a semi-anechoic chamber to maintain strict temperature control and eliminate influences from other nearby transmitters. We’ve selected the premier supplier of SAR evaluation systems and government-preferred vendor, SPEAG of Zurich Switzerland, to provide their latest offering – the DASY5. Equipped with probes, tissue simulants, and phantoms, the DASY5 can evaluate wireless devices operating from 400 MHz – 6 GHz. In addition, we use the R&S CMU200 to support all cellular operating modes up through EVDO and HSPA Rel. 6.

In addition to our expertise in testing Medical devices, Northwest EMC is your solution to gain access to the worldwide marketplace.
