Our PolyMed™ family of products emerged from the need in the medical community for a variety of fundamental characteristics that only composite materials provide. Product development engineers were looking for lightweight materials that exhibited strong physical characteristics, as well as radiolucent and dielectric properties, thin walls, rigidity and the ability to be sterilized. Poly- Med composite medical tubing meets this stringent criteria, while at the same time being competitive in price to stainless steel.

Overview

PolyMed® composite tubing is a lightweight material with strong physical characteristics such as thin walls, high rigidity, and is electrically insulating and radiolucent.

It is ideal for replacing stainless steel, aluminum or any thermoplastic material including PEEK or liquid crystal polymers. PolyMed® is autoclaveable and will not melt.

Polygon pioneered composite tubing for endoscopic prostate applications in the 1980s, and also developed multi-lumen composite tubing, over molding, and insert molding over the years.

Today Polygon has produced over 75 million composite medical tubes without a single product recall.

Our engineering staff excels at converting metallic applications to composites, and do not use a âœone size fits all” approach to application design. Let Polygon be your confidential engineering outsource and silent partner.

Composite Surgical Tubing Benefits

PolyMed® combines lightweight materials and strong physical characteristics, as well as radiolucent and dielectric properties, thin walls, rigidity and the ability to be sterilized. PolyMed® composite medical tubing meets this stringent criteria, while at the same time being competitive in price to stainless steel.

Thermally insulating

Unlike steel tubing, composites are comfortable to the touch and ready for immediate use without warming.

Autoclaveable

Unlike plastic tubing, Polygon medical composites can withstand a standard steam autoclave, yet are affordable enough to be disposable too.

Better than steel

Polygon composite tubing has a higher strength to weight ratio than steel. Smaller composite cannulas are possible due to this increased strength.

Rigid

PolyMed®is extremely rigid over the longer lengths required for S/I applications.

Superb material resiliency

Metals can become permanently bent after being pushed past yield strength, becoming unusable. Composite tubing is more resilient and springs back, which is especially useful in trocar assemblies or other applications where high force is required.

Non-Conductive

Polygon composite tubing is an electrically insulating material, eliminating the need to shrink-wrap.
Polygon is the industry leader in providing double-insulation for handheld electric power tools. Those same dielectric properties work to reduce the risk of capacitance coupling and oxygen fires during electrosurgery for your product.

Non-reflective

Polygon composite cannulas have excellent compatibility with optical devices unlike shiny stainless steel. PolyMed® tubing can also be painted for further improvement.

More lumens for less cost

Polygon can easily handle single, dual, and multi-lumen cannulas in one pass, making them more cost effective than the complex processes needed for steel machining.

Radiolucent

Polymed® composite tubing is radiolucent for clear X-ray imaging, and are also non-magnetic for safe use in MRI environments. Surgical imaging is possible without removal of Polymed tubing, speeding emergency procedures.
