An innovative magnetic drive system was engineered for a new revolutionary chest tube clearance system to provide better drainage and recovery post thoracic surgery (PleuraFlow Active Tube Clearance System, 2011 MDEA Gold Winner). In designing this device, there were many challenges because it is the first device of its kind. One of the biggest challenges was how to advance the inner clearance wire to remove clotting.
