Presentation discusses how many medical implants incorporate microelectronic components that are placed inside the body to sense or to facilitate a physiological response. It is critical that the electronic components not create an adverse effect within the body. Among the available polymers, Parylenes (vapor phase deposited organic coatings), have played a significant role in packaging and protection of such devices for safety and for enhancing the overall reliability within body tissues and fluids. Parylenes have also been very effective on non-implantable medical devices, by providing protection from adverse environmental effects.
