Novel suture materials must routinely undergo biocompatibility testing prior to marketing. However, novel materials affecting the potential strength and integrity of the suture will most likely need further evaluation. This session will review tensile strength, holding strength, wound healing, and histopathological test solutions in preclinical models to help ensure acceptance of the suture by the FDA.
