This paper summarizes the key differences between self-expanding and balloon expanding stents, highlighting the advantages of Nitinol. Also summarized are many novel concepts and future directions in stenting, including neurovascular stents, distal protection during stenting, coronary stents, and balloon expanding superelastic devices.
